Reps. Blaine Luetkemeyer and Ann Wagner and the four other Republican members of the Missouri congressional delegation called upon Gov. Jay Nixon to reverse his decision to allow Syrian refugees into the state.
Bucking the trend of some other governors, including Bruce Rauner of Illinois, Nixon on Monday said he would not bar Syrian immigrants from coming into Missouri. “The screening process for refugees is the responsibility of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security,” Nixon said, calling on “our federal partners to implement the strongest possible safeguards to protect our state and nation.”
